Purpose: The purpose of this study was to consider the factors associated with change in function, physical activity, behavioral symptoms and participation in function focused care among hospitalized older adults living with dementia.
Design: This was a secondary data analysis using data from the Function Focused Care for Acute Care Using the Evidence Integration Theory (FFC-AC-EIT) study to increase physical activity among hospitalized older adults living with dementia.
Methods: A total of 455 patients were recruited from 12 hospitals across two states.

Public health in the United States faces a continuous cycle of "neglect, panic, repeat." As seen with 9/11, H1N1, and COVID-19, public health emergencies create a flurry of attention and resources, but once the crisis passes, focus quickly shifts to other matters until the next emergency, when the cycle repeats. This leaves the nation's public health system chronically under-resourced and ill-equipped to respond, resulting in a strained workforce that must remain nimble.

This has negative implications including functional decline, infections, and longer lengths of stay, and reflects a lower quality of care.
