Diabetes mellitus is a multifactorial metabolic disease characterized by post-prandial hyperglycemia (PPHG). α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitors aim to explore novel therapeutic agents. Herein we report the promises of Dioscorea bulbifera and its bioactive principle, diosgenin as novel α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitor.

This abnormality was found to be inheritable and the mode of inheritance indicated that this phenotype is due to mutation of an autosomal recessive gene. We performed genetic screen to identify the underlying mutations through linkage analysis with the dcm progenies of F(1) intercross.

Macrophage-expressed CD40, a costimulatory molecule, induces interleukin-12 (IL-12)-dependent and interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma)-dependent host-protective immune responses to Leishmania and other intracellular pathogens. Paradoxically, IL-10, another CD40-induced cytokine in macrophages, promotes Leishmania infection.
