Background: Current US federal action levels for domoic acid (DA) in seafood are based on acute toxicity observed in exposed adult humans. Life course considerations have not been incorporated. The potential for developmental neurotoxicity (DNT) at permissible DA levels has previously been noted, but not methodically assessed.

Article Synopsis
  • - Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder (FNSD) involves neurological-like symptoms without a clear neurological cause, and the mechanisms behind it are complex and not fully understood.
  • - A study tested the use of remote monitoring technologies (RMT) on 17 individuals with FNS and 17 healthy controls to track symptoms, daily events, and physiological data, finding that those with FNS reported higher levels of negative emotions, pain, and sleep issues.
  • - Results indicate that daily stressors and negative feelings significantly impact FNS severity, suggesting that addressing emotional responses could help those with FNS, and calls for larger studies to explore these findings further.

The combination of elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (ETI, Trikafta) reverses the primary defect in cystic fibrosis (CF) by improving CFTR-mediated Cl and HCO secretion by airway epithelial cells (AECs), leading to improved lung function and less frequent exacerbations and hospitalizations. However, studies have shown that CFTR modulators like ivacaftor, a component of ETI, have numerous effects on CF cells beyond improved CFTR channel function. Because little is known about the effect of ETI on CF AEC gene expression, we exposed primary human AEC to ETI for 48 h and interrogated the transcriptome by RNA-seq and qPCR.
