Article Synopsis
  • The study compares two methods of liver transplantation from Donation after Circulatory Death (DCD) donors: normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) and static cold storage (SCS), focusing on the rate of ischemic cholangiopathy (IC) after six months.
  • Results showed that NRP had a significantly lower IC rate (1.2%) compared to SCS (9.5%), despite NRP being associated with higher-risk donor and recipient combinations.
  • Overall, the findings indicate that NRP may be a more effective method for utilizing DCD livers, leading to further exploration and improvements in transplantation protocols.

Background/objectives: The rapid evolution of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has led to the emergence of variants with enhanced transmissibility and immune evasion, challenging existing vaccines. This study aimed to evaluate the immunogenicity and protective efficacy of inactivated bivalent vaccine formulations incorporating the ancestral SARS-CoV-2 strain (ERAGEM) with either Delta or Omicron (BA.5) variants.

Background: Onychoschizia is characterized by distal nail plate splitting. Several therapeutic approaches exist, most of which are based on case reports or small non-comparative case series.

Objective: To evaluate safety and efficacy of oral biotin and pyridoxine for treating onychoschizia.

Retinal neovascularization impairs visual function and is a hallmark of several neovascular eye diseases, including retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). Current treatments include intravitreal injections of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) biologics, but these therapeutics are often accompanied by high treatment burden and resistance to therapy. Prior studies indicate that APE1/Ref-1, a multifunctional protein with both endonuclease (APE1) and redox-mediated transcriptional regulatory activity (Ref-1), activates multiple pro-angiogenic and pro-inflammatory signaling pathways by chemically reducing key cysteine residues in transcription factors, thereby activating them.
