Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) from multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs) pose a significant challenge for healthcare systems. Patients can arrive at hospitals already infected ("importation") or acquire infections during their stay ("nosocomial infection"). Many cases, often asymptomatic, complicate rapid identification due to testing limitations and delays.

Traditional lubricating greases are mainly derived from petroleum, which poses major environmental challenges due to their non-biodegradability and pollution issues. This study attempts to synthesize lignin-based green thickeners and explore their potential for developing green and fossil-free greases. A lignin-based gelator was successfully synthesized by reacting malic acid with lignin and epoxidized soybean oil, in which malic acid participated in both the esterification reaction and the ring-opening of the epoxy group.

In search of a molecular regulator that could simultaneously and reciprocally control both LDL and HDL levels, we screened a microRNA (miR) library using human hepatoma Huh-7 cells. We identified miR-541-3p that both significantly decreases apoB and increases apoA1 expression by inducing mRNA degradation of 2 different transcription factors, Znf101 and Casz1.

Despite several established guidelines, such as those by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (ACC/AHA), advocating their use within 24 hours for eligible patients, beta-blockers remain underutilized in clinical practice. This study aimed to analyze beta-blocker utilization patterns in ACS management and evaluate the impact of targeted improvement initiatives on their appropriate use in eligible ACS patients.
