Raccoon Roundworm (Baylisascaris procyonis) Undetected in Endangered Key Largo Woodrat (Neotoma floridana smalli) Endemic Range.

Raccoon roundworm (Baylisascaris procyonis) negatively affects woodrat (Neotoma spp.) populations but is not known to occur in the endemic range of endangered Key Largo woodrats (Neotoma floridana smalli). Rectal swabs from 23 raccoons (Procyon lotor) in Key Largo were screened for raccoon roundworm by PCR.

Plant Virus and Virus-like Disease Threats to Australia's North Targeted by the Northern Australia Quarantine Strategy.

The Northern Australia Quarantine Strategy (NAQS) is a biosecurity initiative operated by the Australian federal government's Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (DAWE). It is unique worldwide because it deals specifically with the potential arrival via unregulated pathways of exotic threats from overseas in a vast and sparsely populated region. It aims to protect the nation's animal- and plant-based production industries, as well as the environment, from incursions of organisms from countries that lie immediately to the north.

Phytoplasma dypsidis', a novel taxon associated with a lethal wilt disease of palms in Australia.

A phytoplasma was initially detected in by nested and real-time PCR from the botanical gardens in Cairns, Queensland, Australia in 2017. Further surveys in the Cairns region identified phytoplasma infections in eight additional dying ornamental palm species (, , , , , ), a species, a species and two native palms (). Analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that this phytoplasma is distinct as it shared less than 97.

Separation of Fatty Acid Dimethyl Esters on an Ionic Liquid Gas Chromatographic Column.

An ionic liquid (IL) 111 column was compared with other commonly employed stationary phases including polydimethyl siloxane and polyethylene glycol for the separation of fatty acid monomethyl and dimethyl esters. The fatty acid esters employed in this study were derived from metathesis reactions of vegetable oils both with and without olefins. The IL 111 column demonstrated enhanced performance compared with conventional columns for the separation of these esters.
