Article Synopsis
  • Patients with hip fractures face a higher risk of falling during rehabilitation, partly due to deteriorated visual function, which can potentially be improved with intervention.
  • The study compared visual acuity (VA) and stereovision (SV) between individuals with fall-related hip injuries and a control group of the same age, using a mobile app for assessments.
  • Results indicated that those with hip injuries had significantly worse monocular VA and stereovision compared to the control group, highlighting a strong link between visual impairment and the risk of hip injuries in the elderly.

The goal of the study was to compare the surface characteristics of typical implant materials used in orthopedic surgery and traumatology, as these determine their successful biointegration. The morphological and chemical structure of Vortex plate anodized titanium from commercially pure (CP) Grade 2 Titanium (Ti2) is generally used in the following; non-cemented total hip replacement (THR) stem and cup Ti alloy (Ti6Al4V) with titanium plasma spray (TPS) coating; cemented THR stem Stainless steel (SS); total knee replacement (TKR) femoral component CoCrMo alloy (CoCr); cemented acetabular component from highly cross-linked ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (HXL); and cementless acetabular liner from ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) (Sanatmetal, Ltd., Eger, Hungary) discs, all of which were examined.

Visualization of the nerve structures of brachial plexus allows anesthesiologists to use a lower dose of local anesthetics. The content of this low dose is not unequivocal, consequently, the pharmacokinetics of local anesthetics used by various authors are difficult to compare. In this study, the onset times and duration of the analgesic effect of local anesthetic mixture solutions used for brachial plexus blocks are investigated and the quality of anesthesia is compared.

Objectives: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of hemiarthroplasty with minimally invasive direct anterior approach (DAA) for the treatment of femoral neck fracture in elderly patients. We aimed to compare the DAA and the standard anterolateral approach (ALA), assessing multiple peri‑ and post-operative parameters.

Design And Setting: Between December of 2015 and May of 2017, patients operated with medial femoral neck fractures using bipolar hemiarthroplasty with DAA or ALA were evaluated.
