[Experience gained with the training of interns-hygienists and its use in creating the structure of an integrated licensing examination "Step 3 - Sanitary-Hygienist Work"].

The experience gained with the training of interns-hygienists at the National Medical University has proved its value, contributing to which fact were modern material-and-technical resources, close cooperation of chairs of hygiene with sanitary epidemiologic stations and scientific-research institutes, highly skilled scientific and teaching personnel, systematic sharing of experience gained in training of specialists with institutions of higher learning of Ukraine. However, interns, Masters, practitioners are still in great need of modern educational literature/training aids. There has not yet been developed a general concept of structure of sanitary epidemiological service of Ukraine, forms and methods of its work under present-day conditions.

[The environment and health status of Ukraine's population before and after the Chernobyl AES accident].

Qualitative and quantitative analyses of the environment and human health during 5 years before and after the Chernobyl accident (1986) provided an original scheme and methods for hygienic assessment of the negative influence of environmental pollution on health. They were tested in the Kiev Region. The accident was found to essentially complicated the environmental and sanitary situation in the region and to negatively affect human health.

[Role of trace elements in the development of chronic ischemic heart disease].

It was shown that determination of erythrocyte superoxide dismutase activity proves to be the adequate test of antioxidant protection under chronic coronary heart disease as well as the reliable laboratory test for the control of the effect of prophylactic ultra-violet radiation.

[Metabolism in experimental chronic ischemic heart disease].

An increase in frequency of heart contractions, changes in the bioelectrical heart activity and decrease of the force-pump heart function are observed in the rabbits with model chronic ischemic heart disease lipid metabolism in significantly changed the concentration of cholesterol in the right ventricle myocardium as well as the concentrations of unsaturated lipid acids in the heart tissues increase, while the content of saturated lipid acids and antioxidant activity of plasma decrease. Bioenergetic processes change as follows: succinate-dehydrogenase and alpha-keto-glutarate-dehydrogenase activity decrease, while the concentrations of glycogen, lactic and pyruvic acids and lactate dehydrogenase activity in the heart tissues increase.

[The relation between oxidative processes and the glycogen content in the heart and liver of rabbits with chronic ischemic heart disease].

While laboratory experimental model of coronary heart disease (according to Frol'kis et al.) is developed, activity of succinate dehydrogenase, alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase, Na+, Ka(+)- and Mg2+ ATPase decreases, but activity of lactate dehydrogenase and concentrations of lactic and pyruvic acids in the heart tissue increase. At the same time concentration of glycogene increases more than twice.
