Transmission patterns of malignant catarrhal fever in sheep and cattle in Karnataka, India.

Malignant catarrhal fever (MCF) presents a sporadic yet significant threat to livestock and wildlife. A comprehensive investigation in Karnataka, India into the prevalence and transmission patterns of sheep-associated MCF (SA-MCF) was conducted. A total of 507 sheep peripheral blood leukocyte samples from 13 districts along with 27 cows and 10 buffalo samples from various regions in Karnataka were tested for SA-MCF infection i.

Pre-treatment delay and out of pocket expenses by notified new tuberculosis patients in an Indian mega city.

Background: Study was carried out to find out delay from onset of symptoms and out of pocket expenditure (OOPE) until initiation of anti-TB treatment (ATT) by new Tuberculosis (TB) patients registered in public health facilities in Bengaluru.

Methods: Notified patients (N = 228) selected purposively were interviewed at initiation of ATT regarding number and type of facilities visited and delay in initiating ATT. OOPE was elicited separately for in- and out-patient visits, towards consultation, purchase of medicines, diagnostic tests, transportation, hospitalization and food.

Keyhole Sliding Hip Screw Fixation for Stable Intertrochanteric Hip Fractures: A Novel Technique.

Intertrochanteric hip fractures are common orthopaedic injuries and the incidence is growing with increasing life expectancy. Several randomized controlled studies have shown the advantages of intramedullary devices over hip screw fixation in unstable intertrochanteric fractures. However, the proven advantage of the intramedullary device in stable intertrochanteric fractures, OTA (Orthopaedic Trauma Association) classification 31-A1 and some 31-A2 fractures are in less blood loss compared with standard hip screw fixation.

Results of the keyhole interlocked nailing for humeral diaphyseal fractures in adults.

Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of interlocked humerus nail through a keyhole incision for the management of humeral diaphyseal fractures in terms of radiological union, shoulder function, and complications.

Materials And Methods: In this prospective study of sixty-two patients with humeral diaphyseal fractures in our institute (51 men, 11 women; mean age 42 years; range 20 to 73 years), fifty-nine fractures were closed and three were grade I open fractures. Three patients had a preoperative radial nerve palsy.
