For outdoor workers, AK is an occupational hazard with a potential for malignant transformation into squamous cell carcinoma. Various topical treatments are used to treat AK's.

Objective: Serial measurements of the fetal abdominal circumference have been used to guide metabolic management of pregnancies complicated by gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). A reduction in the number of repeat ultrasound examinations would save resources. Our purpose was to determine the number of serial abdominal circumference measurements per patient necessary to reliably predict the absence of fetal overgrowth.

Surface interactions in molecular recognition of phosphonate imprinted organosilicates and the role of water have been studied. NMR and calorimetry studies have shown the changing nature of the surface water structure on silicate surfaces due to template directed molecular imprinting. Results indicate the interaction of an organophosphonate compound with the functionalized silica surfaces to be through surrounding water molecules.

Arylene- and ethylene-bridged polysilsesquioxane materials have been synthesized by the hydrolysis and condensation of alkoxysilyl precursors under basic conditions. Cetyltrimethylammonium chloride was used to increase the porosity and surface areas of these materials via the surfactanttemplate approach. Structural characterization of these materials was carried out by nitrogen gas sorption and X-ray diffraction.

The use of halloysite clay as a low cost alternative to more traditional microencapsulation systems is reported. Halloysite is an alumino-silicate clay which demonstrates a predominately cylindrical geometry, uniquely characterized by a hollow core or series of voids with diameters ranging from 16-50 nm. These nanoscale-to-mesoscale microcylinders are capable of entrapping active agents within the core lumen as well as within any void spaces contained in the multilayered walls of the cylinder.
