Background: Several studies have demonstrated an association between obesity, periodontitis, and exercise.

Aims: This study aimed to investigate the effects of regular exercise on obese women with periodontal disease, using serum, saliva, and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) samples. A before-after study design was adopted to evaluate the effects of 12 weeks of regular exercise on obese women grouped according to periodontal status, without a control group (no exercise).

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares the semi-invasive "internal splinting" (SIIS) method for Achilles tendon repair against the traditional open repair using Krakow sutures, assessing clinical outcomes, MRI measurements, and complication rates.
  • Patients treated with SIIS returned to normal activities faster (7.2 weeks) than those who had open surgery (14.3 weeks), and both groups had high AOFAS ankle scores, with SIIS scoring slightly higher (96.2 vs. 93.5).
  • Overall, SIIS showed improved functional results based on isokinetic measurements and MRI findings, indicating it may be a more effective option for Achilles tendon ruptures compared to open surgery.

This study analyses the results of the treatment with external rotator sparing approach in acetabular fractures to determine whether muscle sparing has a positive impact on functional outcome. 20 patients with a mean age of 45.9 years (range: 26-64) that had been treated for displaced acetabular fractures were included in this series.
