The wildlife-domestic interface represents points of contact between wild animals and human-associated domestic animals, and provides opportunities for the dissemination and transmission of parasitic agents. Domestic dogs are reservoirs of parasitic agents, many of which are capable of infecting wild animals. To better investigate this potential risk at the Iberá wetlands eco-region, fecal samples from dogs present at the wildlife-domestic interface of two protected areas in Corrientes province, Argentina were examined.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFSince the last yellow fever (YF) outbreak was detected in Argentina in 2009, vector surveillance and studies of arbovirus infections are carried out intermittently specifically in areas where nonhuman primates of the Alouatta genus are present. We report in these areas of Corrientes province the detection of Haemagogus leucocelaenus (Dyar and Shannon) (Diptera: Culicidae) and Sabethes albiprivus (Theobald) (Diptera: Culicidae), both species involved in the forest YF cycle, and also the presence of Aedes albopictus (Skuse) in new areas in Argentina, which represents the southernmost citation for this species in South America. Aedes albopictus, a mosquito species native to Asia, was reported for the first time in Argentina in 1998, in Misiones province.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFIn the present study, the "Inverted Chirality Columns Approach (ICCA)" was applied to follow an asymmetric synthetic reaction, namely, the addition of butan-2-one to trans-β-nitrostyrene, catalysed by (S)-proline, leading to the formation of 3-methyl-4-phenyl-5-nitro-2-pentan-2-one. The ICCA method was applied to overcome the lack of pure enantiomeric standards. The two widely employed (R,R)- and (S,S)-Whelk-O1 chiral stationary phases (CSPs), incorporating fully synthesized enantiomeric chiral selectors, were profitably used for this purpose.
