Brain asymmetry in directing attention during dichotic listening test: An fNIRS study.

In a classical dichotic listening paradigm, besides auditory brain asymmetry, cognitive functions such as attention and conflict resolution play a major role. The aim of this study is to reveal the possible haemodynamic mechanisms of higher attentional performance in prefrontal cortex during dichotic listening test. Twenty-six healthy participants underwent a dichotic listening task in three sessions; non-forced attention, attention focused to right ear, and attention focused to left ear.

An infrequent case of intussusception caused by gastrointestinal stromal tumor in an adult patient.

Intussusception may occur anywhere in the gastrointestinal system. Unlike its idiopathic childhood counterpart, it is uncommon during adult life and a definitive cause is usually found; almost half of cases develop with malignancy. Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) originate from interstitial Cajal cells of the gastrointestinal tract.

Vacuum-assisted stereotactic biopsy for isolated BI-RADS 4 microcalcifications: evaluation with histopathology and midterm follow-up results.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the 10-gauge vacuum-assisted stereotactic biopsy (VASB) of isolated Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) 4 microcalcifications, using histology and follow-up results.

Methods: From January 2011 to June 2013, VASB was performed on 132 lesions, and 66 microcalcification-only lesions of BI-RADS 4 were included into our study. VASB was performed using lateral decubitis stereotaxy for all patients.

Two dimensional numerical prediction of deflagration-to-detonation transition in porous energetic materials.

This paper describes a two-dimensional code developed for analyzing two-phase deflagration-to-detonation transition (DDT) phenomenon in granular, energetic, solid, explosive ingredients. The two-dimensional model is constructed in full two-phase, and based on a highly coupled system of partial differential equations involving basic flow conservation equations and some constitutive relations borrowed from some one-dimensional studies that appeared in open literature. The whole system is solved using an optimized high-order accurate, explicit, central-difference scheme with selective-filtering/shock capturing (SF-SC) technique, to augment central-diffencing and prevent excessive dispersion.

Coronary calcium score, albuminuria and inflammatory markers in type 2 diabetic patients: associations and prognostic implications.

Aims: To investigate the relationship of coronary artery calcium (CAC) scores with common carotid artery intima media thickness (CCA-IMT), albuminuria and inflammatory factors in type 2 diabetes.

Methods And Results: 128 asymptomatic type 2 diabetic patients, with at least one cardiovascular risk factor in addition to diabetes, were included in the study. CAC scores, carotid arteries plaque formation and CCA-IMT were assessed.
