We demonstrate the existence of compactons matter waves in binary mixtures of Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC) trapped in deep optical lattices (OL) subjected to equal contributions of intraspecies Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling (SOC) under periodic time modulations of the intraspecies scattering length. We show that these modulations lead to a rescaling of the SOC parameters that involves the density imbalance of the two components. This gives rise to density dependent SOC parameters that strongly influence the existence and the stability of compacton matter waves.

The effect of cubic-quintic nonlinearity and associated intercomponent couplings on the modulational instability (MI) of plane-wave solutions of the two-component discrete nonlinear Schrödinger (DNLS) equation is considered. Conditions for the onset of MI are revealed and the growth rate of small perturbations is analytically derived. For the same set of initial parameters as equal amplitudes of plane waves and intercomponent coupling coefficients, the effect of quintic nonlinearity on MI is found to be essentially stronger than the effect of cubic nonlinearity.

Asymptotic behavior of initially "large and smooth" pulses is investigated at two typical stages of their evolution governed by the defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation. At first, wave breaking phenomenon is studied in the limit of small dispersion. A solution of the Whitham modulational equations is found for the case of dissipationless shock wave arising after the wave breaking point.
