Genotype Distribution and Characteristics of Chronic Hepatitis C Infection in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Ukraine: The RESPOND-C Study.

Since 2013, highly effective direct-acting antiviral (DAA) treatment for chronic hepatitis C (CHC) has become available, with cure rates exceeding 95%. For the choice of optimal CHC treatment, an assessment of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype (GT) and liver fibrosis stage is necessary. Information about the distribution of these parameters among CHC patients in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania (the Baltic states) and especially in Ukraine is scarce.

Determination of the experimental yield of Tc in (p,2n) nuclear reaction on enriched Mo sample with application of 11-MeV medical cyclotron.

This paper presents the measured thick target yield of Tc from molybdenum sample with 92.2% enrichment in Mo isotope via the (p,2n) nuclear reaction channel. The yield was determined experimentally with application of the 11-MeV medical cyclotron Eclipse RD, equipped with a new target assembly developed for solid sample irradiations.

Functionality of endothelial cells on silk fibroin nets: comparative study of micro- and nanometric fibre size.

Biomimetic material design, such as mimicking nanostructured components of the extracellular matrix, is an actual challenge for biomaterial research with a high impact on tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Thus, understanding the cellular response at the cell biological and molecular level and the consequences of various chemically or physically modified biomaterials is highly important. In the present study we assessed the response of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) and outgrowth endothelial cells (OEC) from endothelial progenitor cells to different variants of nanofibrous silk fibroin nets in comparison to microfibrous silk fibroin scaffolds with regard to cellular morphology, proliferation, formation of intercellular contacts as well as integrin-dependent adhesion.

[Characteristics of kidney function before and after surgical treatment of obstructive pyelonephritis in children].

Using the clearance method in children with obstructive pyelonephritis were investigated the changes of the renal excretory and ion-regulating functions before and after the operation. After performance of the operation the renal function had worsened.

[Use of ultraviolet irradiation of the blood in the complex treatment of peritonitis].

According to the data of tetrasolium nitroblue test and titer of the blood serum antibodies to the most frequently cultured microflora in complex treatment of 27 patients with diffuse purulent peritonitis, it was established, that the use of ultraviolet irradiation of the blood stimulated the specific and non-specific organism resistance.
