Background: The Mediterranean diet (MD) has been considered one of the healthiest dietary patterns, and an excellent model of sustainability. Higher Education food services present an excellent scenario to encourage students healthy eating habits and modulate food choices. The purpose of this work was to develop an index to evaluate MD compliance with cafeteria menus.

Morphophysiological responses of black pepper to recurrent water deficit.

This study investigated the effects of recurrent water deficit on drought tolerance traits in black pepper ( L.) 'Bragantina'. Plants were subjected to three cycles of water deficit followed by recovery periods.

Aldehyde dehydrogenase-2 deficiency (ALDH2∗2) found in 36 % of Han Chinese, affects approximately 8 % of the world population. ALDH2 is a mitochondrial key enzyme in detoxifying reactive aldehydes to less reactive forms. Studies demonstrate a potential link between ALDH2∗2 mutation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Intragenic antimicrobial peptide Hs02 toxicity against leukemia cell lines is associated with increased expression of select pyroptotic components.

The anticancer potential of some antimicrobial peptides has been reported. Hs02 is a recently characterized Intragenic Antimicrobial Peptide (IAP), which was able to exhibit potent antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory action. In this study, we evaluate for the first time the antineoplastic potential of the Hs02 IAP using cell lines representing the main types of leukemia as cancer models.

Trade and socioeconomic importance of an invasive giant snail in the endemic-rich island of São Tomé, Central Africa.

Managing invasive species is crucial to mitigate their negative impacts on ecosystems, yet conflicts may arise when their social benefits are disregarded. Human pressure on the endemic-rich forests of São Tomé has been high since the island was discovered by the Portuguese in the 15th century, and numerous species have been introduced. These include the invasive West African giant land snail (Archachatina marginata), which was introduced in the mid-20th century, is now widespread on the island, and is a potential threat to native flora and fauna.
