Wool, a naturally occurring biopolymer made up of amino acids, is employed as an adsorbent for both modified and unmodified forms of the dyes rhodamine6G (R6G) and Cr. The two-step procedure of (i) ring opening polymerization (ROP) and (ii) condensation reaction was used to modify the structure of wool fibre. Both the ROP and the condensation provide steric free chain expanding groups as well as adsorption-improving groups.

A novel fluorescent polyimide (PI) made up of perylenetetracarboxylic dianhydride (PTCDAH) and p-phenylenediamine (PPDA) was prepared with or without Ag and VO nanoparticles at 160 °C for 5 h under N atmosphere with vigorous stirring. The influence of nanomaterials on the rate of polymerization (R) was determined. The synthesized PI and PI nanocomposites were characterized to analyse their chemical functionality (FT-IR), surface morphology (FE-SEM) and thermal properties (DSC and TGA).

Synthesis of Polyimides (PIs) between pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDAH) and oxydianiline (ODA) or p-phenylenediamine (PPDA) in the presence and absence of VO and Ag nanoparticles (NPs) were carried out under N atmosphere at 160 °C for 5 h with vigorous stirring in N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) solvent. The prepared PI and its nanocomposites were analyzed by FT-IR spectroscopy, H NMR spectroscopy, FE-SEM, SEM, DSC and TGA like analytical instruments. The FE-SEM showed various surface morphologies for different PI nanocomposites.

Structural modification of Cotton (Cot) fiber was carried out using ε-caprolactone (CL) as a monomer and oxydianiline (ODA) as a Schiff base forming agent in the presence of VO catalyst in dimethylsulfoxide medium for 24h under air atmosphere (0.10MPa) at 80°C. The obtained products were analyzed for the characteristics and also for its adsorption of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) and rhodamine 6G (R6G) dye molecules.

The acidfuchsin (AF) decorated Ag nanoparticle (NP) was synthesized and its ability towards the ring opening polymerization (ROP) of ε-caprolactone (CL) was studied under N2 atmosphere at 160 °C in the presence of stannous octoate (SO) as a catalyst. Both the nanohybrid and nanocomposites were characterized by various analytical tools like Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, UV-visible spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The number of binding site from the fluorescence spectrum confirmed that all the functional groups present in AF might have been involved in the ROP of CL.
