Background: Variations in the techniques of bariatric surgery, coupled with the lack of a common database, has led to variable and, sometimes negative, outcomes from bariatric surgery. Thus, in November 2003, the American Society for Bariatric Surgery established Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) as an independent nonprofit entity for quality control of bariatric surgery and as a resource for data collection and analysis.

Methods: In November 2003, the leadership of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery founded SRC as an independent nonprofit entity for quality control of bariatric surgery and as resource for research.

This pilot randomized study compared MDL 72,222, a highly selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist, with a high-dose metoclopramide regimen (HDM) for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. MDL 72,222 was given in 20 mg intravenous doses 30 minutes before chemotherapy, as well as 2, 6, and 12 hours after chemotherapy infusion. The HDM was composed of diphenhydramine 50 mg i.

Aminophylline has been shown to produce a reduction in cerebral blood flow (CBF) in animal models and patients with neurologic symptoms or signs. The effect of aminophylline on regional CBF (rCBF) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has not previously been reported to our knowledge. We studied the effect of loading and maintenance infusions of aminophylline on CBF in five subjects with moderate to severe COPD.

We investigated the accuracy with which pulmonary artery wedge pressure (WP) reflected left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP) in dogs with oleic acid-induced pulmonary edema. We compared hemodynamic variables before and during edema, as measured from a pulmonary artery catheter placed before oleic acid (PA-1) and from a second catheter (PA-2) placed 2 h after oleic acid infusion. Oleic acid decreased arterial oxygen saturation and cardiac output and increased pulmonary vascular resistance and phasic pulmonary artery pressure.
