Before the invasion of the fall armyworm (FAW) into Africa, smallholder farmers had been using indigenous practices such as applying fish soup to plants to manage stemborer pests. Although farmers have since begun adapting this practice against FAW, no attempt has been made to scientifically evaluate this practice. Therefore, we assessed the efficacy of applying fish soup to maize plants that were artificially infested with FAW under semi-field conditions.

Background: Thyroid cancer is prevalent both internationally and locally, and is the most common cause of endocrine malignancies in Africa. The prognosis of thyroid cancer in general is quite good, but to achieve good outcomes, appropriate methods for diagnosis are important. A cytology result obtained from a fine needle aspiration and biopsy (FNAB) is one such method, and is less invasive and has less risk compared with obtaining a histological result via open surgery.

Since the discovery of insulin, continuous developments of this peptide have led to better management of diabetes mellitus, thus leading to a decrease in diabetes-related mortality. Despite these developments, we have seen an increase in diabetes cases, which has further necessitated more innovative methods for diabetes management. The subcutaneous administration of insulin remains the mainstay therapy for type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Background: Diabetes mellitus and prediabetes have been shown to be associated with high rates of developing severe COVID 19 complications resulting in morbidity and mortality. Emerging reports suggest that COVID 19 is associated with glycaemic control aberrations, although the extent is not clear at present. Accordingly, in this review, the efforts are directed to shed light on why we can anticipate an increase in diabetes cases amid or post-COVID 19 pandemic.
