Overuse of antibiotics is a major problem in the treatment of bovine mastitis, and antibiotic treatment is frequently non-curative, thus alternative treatments are necessary. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a purified phage cocktail for treatment of bovine mastitis in a well-defined mouse model. Candidate phages were selected based on their performance and subsequently processed into an optimally composed phage cocktail.

The understanding of tribo- and electro-chemical phenomenons on the molecular level at a sliding interface is a field of growing interest. Fundamental chemical and physical insights of sliding surfaces are crucial for understanding wear at an interface, particularly for nano or micro scale devices operating at high sliding speeds. A complete investigation of the electrochemical effects on high sliding speed interfaces requires a precise monitoring of both the associated wear and surface chemical reactions at the interface.

The spreading of liquid droplets composed of molecules with or without reactive end groups over a solid surface has been studied using Monte Carlo simulations. For molecules without reactive end groups, a molecular layering in the spreading profiles is predicted, depending on the ratio of the magnitude of intermolecular interactions to thermal energy. As intermolecular interactions become smaller than thermal energy, the layered structure vanishes.

The shear response of molecularly thin liquid films on solid substrates when subjected to an applied air stress has been measured. The response corresponds to viscous friction while the same films sheared between two solid surfaces display static friction. These results show that molecularly thin liquid films partially confined by a single solid surface do not solidify as when confined between two solid surfaces.
