The work deals with the comparative analysis of the results of femoropopliteal shunting (FPS) by means of the great saphenous vein (GSV) and arterialized lateral vein of the forearm (AVF). The results of operations with identical interventions but differing only in the graft are analysed. The best results of FPS with AVF are explained by adequate relationship of the graft and anastomosed artery in both anastomoses, as well as by adaptation of the wall of the AVF to the arterial blood flow during arterialization.

The article describes methods for subcutaneous removal of a venous autograft by means of an atraumatic venoextractor and autovenous plastics of arteries with an arterialized graft formed from the lateral subcutaneous vein of the forearm. The object of the methods is the solution of one of the urgent problems of cardiovascular surgery--the maintenance, search for nontraditional sources, and improvement of the quality of autovenous shunts. The results of shunting operations depend directly on the quality of the grafts.
