Neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses type 7 (CLN7): a case series reporting cross sectional and retrospective clinical data to evaluate validity of standardized tools to assess disease progression, quality of life, and adaptive skills.

Background: This study evaluated the clinical characteristics of neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis type 7 or CLN7 disease spectrum to characterize the clinical, electrophysiologic and neuroimaging phenotypes.

Methods: We performed a single-center cross sectional data collection along with retrospective medical chart review in patients with a genetic diagnosis of CLN7. This study received ethical approval by the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Institutional Review Board.

The NExT trial: Protocol for a two-phase randomized controlled trial testing transcranial magnetic stimulation to augment exposure therapy for youth with OCD.

Background: Exposure with Response Prevention (ERP) is a first-line treatment for OCD, but even when combined with first-line medications it is insufficiently effective for approximately half of patients. Compulsivity in OCD is thought to arise from an imbalance of two distinct neural circuits associated with specific subregions of striatum. Targeted modulation of these circuits via key cortical nodes (dorsolateral prefrontal cortex [dlPFC] or presupplementary motor area [pSMA]) has the potential to improve ERP efficacy by decreasing compulsions during therapy.

Comparing new tools of artificial intelligence to the authentic intelligence of our global health students.

Introduction: The transformative feature of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the massive capacity for interpreting and transforming unstructured data into a coherent and meaningful context. In general, the potential that AI will alter traditional approaches to student research and its evaluation appears to be significant. With regard to research in global health, it is important for students and research experts to assess strengths and limitations of GenAI within this space.

A dynamic customized electronic health record rule based clinical decision support tool for standardized adult intensive care metrics.

Objectives: Many routine patient care items should be reviewed at least daily for intensive care unit (ICU) patients. These items are often incompletely performed, and dynamic clinical decision support tools (CDSTs) may improve attention to these daily items. We sought to evaluate the accuracy of institutionalized electronic health record (EHR) based custom dynamic CDST to support 22 ICU rounding quality metrics across 7 categories (hypoglycemia, venothromboembolism prophylaxis, stress ulcer prophylaxis, mechanical ventilation, sedation, nutrition, and catheter removal).

End-organ protective effect of serelaxin in patients hospitalized for heart failure: Results of the biomarker substudy of Relaxin in Acute Heart Failure-2 (RELAX-AHF-2).

Aims: Serelaxin is recombinant human relaxin-2, a hormone responsible for haemodynamic adaptations and organ protection in pregnancy. In the RELAX-AHF trial, serelaxin demonstrated reductions in cardiac, renal and hepatic damage. In RELAX-AHF-2, organ damage-related biomarkers were assessed in a biomarker substudy.
