During the past 30 years, the endocannabinoid system (ECS) has emerged as a major signalling system in the mammalian brain regulating neurotransmission in numerous brain regions and in various cell populations. Endocannabinoids are able to regulate specific physiological functions and thus modify their behavioural manifestations and allostatic alterations of the ECS linked to different pathological conditions. As discussed in detail in other chapters of this book, endocannabinoids are involved in learning and memory, stress, and anxiety, feeding, energy balance, development, and ageing.

Objective: To provide an update on palliative care needs specific to stroke and provide key points for clinicians and health care systems caring for patients with stroke and their families.

Methods: Members of the writing group were chosen to represent the multidisciplinary team of professionals who care for people who have had a stroke. Maintaining efficacy of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) medications is challenging among children because of dosing difficulties, the limited number of approved drugs, and low rates of medication adherence. Drug level feedback (DLF) can support dose optimization and timely interventions to prevent treatment failure, but current tests are heavily instrumented and centralized. We developed the REverse-transcriptase ACTivity-crispR (REACTR) assay for rapid measurement of HIV drugs based on the extent of DNA synthesis by HIV reverse transcriptase.

Resilience has been defined as the maintenance or quick recovery of mental health during and after stressor exposure. One popular operationalization of this concept is to model prototypical trajectories of mental health in response to an adverse event, where trajectories of undisturbed low or rapidly recovering symptoms both comply with the resilience definition. However, mental health responses are likely also influenced by other stressors occurring before or during the observation time window.

Defects in myelin homeostasis have been reported in many neuropathological conditions. Cannabinoid compounds have been shown to efficiently promote myelin regeneration in animal models of demyelination. However, it is still unknown whether this action relies mostly on a cell autonomous effect on oligodendroglial-lineage-NG2 cells.
