Aim: To analyse and present the epidemiological and epizootological situation of brucellosis in humans, sheep and goats caused by Brucella melitensis.
Methods: The veterinary health services analyzsd epidemiological reports, as well as other official documents, in relation to the epidemiology and the measures undertaken for control of brucellosis in Bulgaria, 2005-08.
Results: In Bulgaria animal infections caused by Brucella melitensis have been eradicated since 1941.
Studied was the species structure of Salmonella strains isolated in this country from mammals, birds, food products, combined feeds, and objects of the environment over the 1976-1980 period. Differentiated were a total of 10,794 Salmonella cultures, belonging to 67 serotypes of 10 serologic groups after Kauffmann-White's scheme. Most wide-spread proved to be the S.

Stated are scientific bases of some prophylactic principles taken into consideration in the prevention of infectious diseases in industrial poultry breeding. It has been found that prophylactic activity is aimed at discontinuing the mechanism of transmission between the individual technologic groups and batches; suppressing or limiting the intensity of microbism which by itself is the dynamic state of contamination on a mass scale of the surrounding milieu with various conditionally pathogenic or saprophytic organisms; composing batches that are technologically and epizootiologically homogeneous. Stated are the principles of isolated raising according to: age and trend, black-and-white zones and ways, all in-all out, and creating pathogen-free flocks.

Statistical methods, such as Shovene's criterion and the correlation analysis were made use of in the interpretation of the results. The importance was ascertained (in epizootic aspect) of the lack of harmlessness of the technology employed in terms of the transmission of Salmonella organisms.
