Antitumor effect of bromo-naphthoquinone associated with tannic acid in triple negative breast cancer cells.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive type of tumor that tends to recur in women. It is characterized by the absence of hormonal receptors, making it challenging to diagnosis and treatment. In this study, we investigated the anti-tumor effects of a pro-oxidant naphthoquinone derivative called bromo-naphthoquinone (BrNQ) isolated and combined with the antioxidant tannic acid (TA) in order to improve treatment.

Energy utilization and requirement of broiler breeders during the production phase.

This study aimed to evaluate energy utilization and propose models for metabolizable and net energy requirements in broiler breeders during the egg production phase. Sixty Cobb500 broiler breeders aged between 29 and 65 wk were randomly assigned to 3 feeding levels. At each age, 6 birds were adapted for 8 d to 3 levels of metabolizable energy intake (MEi), established based on the amount of feed allocated: 1) the amount of feed recommended in the guideline, 2) 25% above, and 3) 25% below.

Description and Validation of Flow-Through Chambers of Respirometry for Measuring Gas Exchange in Animal Trials.

Indirect calorimetry (IC) is a widely used method to study animal energy metabolism by measuring gas exchange. The accuracy of IC depends on detecting variations in signals reflecting the metabolic response, which can be challenging due to measurement noise and external factors. This study proposes a methodology to validate IC systems, including an easy-to-use spreadsheet for data computing, to verify accuracy and detect whole-system leaks.

The Response to Dietary Leucine in Laying Lens.

This study aimed to estimate the standardized ileal digestible leucine intake (SID-Leu, mg) in laying hens for maintenance, and to describe the response in laying hens to SID-Leu, thereby providing the information required to determine the optimum economic intake of SID-Leu for laying hens. Two nitrogen balance series, one balanced and the other unbalanced with respect to leucine (Leu), were used to estimate the SID-Leu requirement for maintenance using 36 roosters per series. The roosters were randomly distributed among the six levels of Leu with each level being replicated six times.

Composition of feathers and pulp of two broiler genotypes.

1. Cobb and Ross broilers (200 of each sex and breed) were fed four phases of diets formulated with balanced protein to match their amino acid requirements throughout growth. Ten birds per genotype were sampled and euthanised at two-weekly intervals from 14 to 112 d of age.
