Circulatory response to exercise relative to oxygen uptake assessed in the follow-up of patients with fatty acid beta-oxidation disorders.

Patients with fatty acid oxidation disorders (FAODs) experience muscle symptoms due to impaired ATP metabolism and the toxicity of accumulated mitochondrial FAO substrates or intermediates, especially during catabolic states. A major issue is the absence of specific and sensible biomarkers to evaluate metabolic equilibrium. The relationship between cardiac output (Q) and oxygen consumption (VO) during incremental exercise (dQ/dVO) provides an indirect surrogate of mitochondrial function.

Feature-Based Molecular Network for New Psychoactive Substance Identification: The Case of Synthetic Cannabinoids in a Seized e-Liquid and Biological Samples.

The comprehensive detection of new psychoactive substances, including synthetic cannabinoids along with their associated metabolites in biological samples, remains an analytical challenge. To detect these chemicals, untargeted approaches using appropriate bioinformatic tools such as molecular networks are useful, albeit it necessitates as a prerequisite the identification of a node of interest within the cluster. To illustrate it, we reported in this study the identification of synthetic cannabinoids and some of their metabolites in seized e-liquid, urine, and hair collected from an 18-year-old poisoned patient hospitalized for neuropsychiatric disorders.

An iconodiagnosis for Joos Vijd, as painted by the van Eycks in the Ghent Altarpiece.

The Ghent Altarpiece, a jewel of Gothic art painted by the van Eyck brothers in the fifteenth century, is particularly noteworthy for its use of an innovative dilution of oil, giving it a realistic scope that is particularly conducive to iconodiagnostic hypotheses. For the first time in the literature, we are taking a medical look at this masterpiece, and more specifically at the representation of its patron, whose identity is well known: Joos Vijd, a powerful notable from the town of Ghent, in modern-day Belgium. A vascular turgidity of the temporal artery, which can be suggestive of temporal arteritis, Hertoghe's sign and a slight ear crease were observed.
