Jan Mikulicz-Radecki: one of the creators of world surgery.

This paper presents the life and achievements of Professor Jan Mikulicz-Radecki and his contribution to European and world surgery. He was born in 1850. Four periods can be distinguished in his surgical career: (1) Vienna period, 1875-82, when he worked by the side of the great Theodor Billroth: he introduced a number of new diagnostic and operative techniques, aseptic and antiseptic procedures, published research papers.

[Evaluation of the results of treatment of cancer of the large intestine based on our clinical data].

Results of the treatment of 225 patients operated between 1991-1995 on the colorectal carcinoma in the II Clinic of Surgery, Medical Academy Wroclaw are evaluated. The analysis of the own material covers the tumor site, age of the patients, histologic grade and clinical stage according to Dukes. The type of surgical procedure--curative or palliative and the evaluation of the survival, death and recurrence rate is presented.

[Comparison of combined treatment for venous ulcers in postphlebitic syndrome and use of PGE-1--introductory remarks].

We have included PGE-1 to the clinical management of varicose ulcers of the leg. We found the results very interesting and promising. The literature on using PGE-1 for this disease entity is rather poor and the biomechanics is still unclear.

[Bacteriophage therapy in the treatment of recurrent subphrenic and subhepatic abscess with jejunal fistula after stomach resection].

The case of recurrent subphrenic abscess with the jejunal fistula after stomach resection in 41-years old male is presented. In microbiological examination E. coli antibiotic-resisted was discovered.
