In intensive care units, COVID-19 viral pneumonia patients (VPP) present symptoms similar to those of other patients with Nonviral infection (NV-ICU). To better manage VPP, it is therefore interesting to better understand the molecular pathophysiology of viral pneumonia and to search for biomarkers that may clarify the diagnosis. The secretome being a set of proteins secreted by cells in response to stimuli represents an opportunity to discover new biomarkers.

Background: Dietary intake and metabolism variations are associated with molecular changes and more particularly in the transcriptome. O-GlcNAcylation is a post-translational modification added and removed respectively by OGT and OGA. The UDP-GlcNAc, the substrate of OGT, is produced by UAP1 and UAP1L1.

Anaesthetics are used daily in human and veterinary medicine as well as in scientific research. Anaesthetics have an impact on cell homeostasis especially through modulation of protein post-translational modifications. O-GlcNAcylation, a ubiquitous post-translational modification, plays a role in many biological processes.

Article Synopsis
  • * Male Wistar Han rats were used to induce hemorrhagic shock through controlled blood loss, followed by a phase of low blood pressure, and then treatment with intravenous fluids to mimic patient care.
  • * Results showed significant decreases in blood pressure and increases in organ damage markers, establishing this model as a useful tool for further research on potential treatments for hemorrhagic shock.

Article Synopsis
  • - Anaphylactic shock (AS) is a severe allergic reaction that can be life-threatening, and while epinephrine is typically used to manage it, additional treatments like NButGT may enhance recovery by affecting heart function.
  • - In an experiment with ovalbumin-sensitized rats, various treatment groups were established, including those receiving NButGT before or after AS onset, and combinations of NButGT with epinephrine to evaluate effects on heart function and other physiological parameters.
  • - Results showed that NButGT pre-treatment increased O-GlcNAcylation in the heart and improved cardiac output and mitochondrial function, while also reducing blood lactate levels when used alongside epinephrine, suggesting it could be a beneficial
