Strontium isoscape of sub-Saharan Africa allows tracing origins of victims of the transatlantic slave trade.

Strontium isotope (Sr/Sr) analysis with reference to strontium isotope landscapes (Sr isoscapes) allows reconstructing mobility and migration in archaeology, ecology, and forensics. However, despite the vast potential of research involving Sr/Sr analysis particularly in Africa, Sr isoscapes remain unavailable for the largest parts of the continent. Here, we measure the Sr/Sr ratios in 778 environmental samples from 24 African countries and combine this data with published data to model a bioavailable Sr isoscape for sub-Saharan Africa using random forest regression.

Clinicopathologic findings in a cohort of metastases to the stomach.

Aims: Metastatic tumors to the stomach can mimic primary gastric adenocarcinoma or be subtle and difficult to identify. The current study aimed to characterize the clinicopathology of metastases to the stomach to aid in diagnosis.

Methods And Results: Forty-three metastatic tumors and 30 primary gastric adenocarcinoma cases were reviewed.

Acetyl-CoA carboxylase catalyzes the first committed and regulated step in fatty acid synthesis in all animals, plants and bacteria. In most Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, the enzyme is composed of three proteins: biotin carboxylase, biotin carboxyl carrier protein and carboxyltransferase. The reaction consists of two half-reactions.

Characterization of the single cell landscape in normal and osteoarthritic equine joints.

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a major source of pain and disability worldwide. Understanding of disease progression is evolving, but OA is increasingly thought to be a multifactorial disease in which the innate immune system plays a role in regulating and perpetuating low-grade inflammation. The aim of this study was to enhance our understanding of OA immunopathogenesis through characterization of the transcriptomic responses in OA joints, with the goal to facilitate the development of targeted therapies.
