Tetracycline analogs from the minocycline family have recently shown promise for the treatment of non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections. However, current tetracycline and minocycline therapeutics can be limited by tolerability, stability, or inactivation by TetX. In this study, a series of novel 9-heteroaryl substituted minocycline analogs were designed and synthesized, which resulted in analogs with good in vitro activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium abscessus, stability in water for more than 7 days, avoidance of TetX inactivation in M.

Four hundred and eighty crossbred yearling steers (363 ± 15 kg) were assigned to a 2 × 3 factorial arrangement of treatments, consisting of two corn processing methods, steam-flaked corn (SFC) or a high-moisture corn: dry-rolled corn blend (HMC: DRC), and three inclusions of Sweet Bran (0%, 20%, or 40% of diet dry matter). Data were analyzed using the MIXED procedure of SAS as a generalized block design with pen as the experimental unit and block as a fixed effect.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIatrogenic vascular air embolism is a relatively infrequent event but is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. These emboli can arise in many clinical settings such as neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, and liver transplantation, but more recently, endoscopy, hemodialysis, thoracentesis, tissue biopsy, angiography, and central and peripheral venous access and removal have overtaken surgery and trauma as significant causes of vascular air embolism. The true incidence may be greater since many of these air emboli are asymptomatic and frequently go undiagnosed or unreported.

Background: GEARS-Likert-scale skills assessment are a widely accepted tool for robotic surgical training outcome evaluations. Proficiency-based progression (PBP) training is another methodology but uses binary performance metrics for evaluations.
