No consensus exists on the optimal therapy for resectable gastric cancer (GC) and gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) tumors, including the effectiveness of chemoradiotherapy versus perioperative chemotherapy (PC). Our study aimed to compare overall survival (OS) outcomes associated with the recommended treatment modalities for GC and GEJ tumors and evaluate treatment trends from 2010 to 2020. A national registry cohort identified patients with ≥ cT2 nonmetastatic GC and GEJ cancer.

Background: The death of trauma patients with low injury severity scores (ISS) may not be fully explained by the severity of their injuries. Our objective was to evaluate preexisting conditions (PECs) that may contribute to the mortality rate of and hospital resources consumed by patients with low ISS.

Methods: Trauma patients with ISS <9 were selected from the National Trauma Database Bank [NTDB] [2019-21].

Article Synopsis
  • A study involving 1,296 sexual and gender minority people assigned male at birth in Chicago highlighted an increasing trend in methamphetamine use from 2015 to 2023, particularly among those aged 25 and older.
  • The average age for first-time use of methamphetamine was found to be around 23.9 years.
  • The research indicated that those with a history of HIV diagnosis had a two-fold higher risk of initiating methamphetamine use, and higher inflammation levels (measured by C-reactive protein) also increased the likelihood of first-time use.

Biocatalysis has been widely employed for the generation of carbon-carbon/heteroatom stereocentres, yet its application in chiral C(sp)-S bond construction is rare and limited to enzymatic kinetic resolutions. Herein, we describe the enantioselective construction of chiral C(sp)-S bonds through ene-reductase biocatalyzed conjugate reduction of prochiral vinyl sulfides. A series of cooperative sequential/concurrent chemoenzymatic and biocatalytic cascades have been developed to access a broad range of chiral sulfides, including valuable β-hydroxysulfides bearing two adjacent C(sp)-S and C(sp)-O stereocentres, in a stereoconvergent manner with good to excellent yields (up to 96%) and enantioselectivities (up to >99% ee).

Previous studies have suggested that mindfulness programs can be useful, in a significant sector of the population, to reduce stress when practiced for at least 8 weeks. The objective of the present investigation was to explore the effect of a single session of mindfulness practice in reducing stress in female cancer survivors. Two repeated measures studies were applied; in the first one, it was performed individually, while in the second one, it was performed in a group.
