Background: Recent studies have revealed the usefulness of synovial calprotectin (CLP) in diagnosing chronic periprosthetic joint infections (PJIs). However, there is still a lack of evidence to support the use of serum CLP in the diagnosis of early PJIs and surgical site infections (SSIs) after total joint arthroplasties (TJAs).

Purpose: The goal of this study was to review available literature on periprosthetic shoulder fractures to evaluate epidemiology, risk factors and support clinical decision-making regarding diagnostics, preoperative planning, and treatment options.

Methods: Two authors cross-checked the PubMed and Web of Science medical databases. The inclusion criteria were as follows: original human studies published in English, with the timeframe not limited, and the following keywords were used: 'periprosthetic shoulder fracture,' 'total shoulder arthroplasty periprosthetic fractures,' 'total shoulder arthroplasty fracture,' and 'total shoulder replacement periprosthetic fracture.

Purpose: Neuroarthropathy is a progressive joint degeneration secondary to neurological diseases. In the upper extremity, the shoulder is the most exposed, and it is mainly caused by syringomyelia. This condition is rare; therefore, the literature has documented only a few case reports or case series of small groups of patients.
