Chlamydia trachomatis infection is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection globally, and nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs) are recommended for highly sensitive and specific diagnosis. In early 2019, the Finnish new variant of Chlamydia trachomatis (FI-nvCT) was identified. The FI-nvCT has a C1515T mutation in the 23S rRNA gene, making it escaping detection in the Aptima Combo 2 (AC2; Hologic) NAAT, and the FI-nvCT has been subsequently reported in Sweden and Norway.

Article Synopsis
  • Rapid and accurate diagnosis of influenza is crucial for appropriate treatment and reducing unnecessary tests, prompting the evaluation of commercial assays compared to in-house methods.* -
  • The study tested the VIASURE Flu A, B & RSV Real Time RT-PCR Detection Kit on 532 clinical samples and found it to have a sensitivity of 99.5% and specificity of 99.1% for detecting Influenza A, though Influenza B detection was not evaluated due to low positivity.* -
  • The BD MAX platform using the VIASURE assay demonstrated flexibility with faster turnaround and lower technician handling time, leading to its successful implementation in clinical practice.*

A multiplex-bead-based assay for the detection of serum antibodies to Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato was evaluated. The assay contained 13 different antigens in both the IgG and the IgM assay; thus, a total of 26 measurement results were available from each sample. A total of 49 Danish patients with Lyme neuroborreliosis (LNB), 218 Danish blood donor controls, a set of 61 Swedish patients with LNB and 139 Swedish non-LNB patients investigated for suspected LNB were used.

In Denmark recurrent epidemics of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections have been described since the 1950s at intervals of approximately four to six years. The latest epidemic occurred in 2004/05 followed by two years of high incidence and more than three years of low incidence. Due to a recent increase in diagnosed cases since late summer 2010, we conducted a survey of positive M.

The presence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in hospitals and the community is a serious problem. Accordingly, a comprehensive plan has been implemented in the County of Vejle, Denmark, to identify colonised and/or infected individuals and to control the spread of MRSA. Since 2005, all patients and healthcare personnel have been screened for MRSA colonisation, involving analysis of 300-400 samples daily.
