Introduction: Varicocele, defined as abnormal convoluted enlargement of the pampiniform plexus veins, is the most common cause of correctable male infertility. This study aimed to investigate the effect of blood drainage in varicose veins on spermiogram parameters, postoperative pain, cosmetic appearance, and patient satisfaction in patients undergoing subinguinal microscopic varicocelectomy.

Methods: Patients diagnosed with clinical varicocele and admitted to our urology outpatient clinic between January 2020 and January 2024 were evaluated.

Objective: This study aims to compare two different drainage methods, percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN) and retrograde ureteral double-J (DJ) stent insertion, in patients with obstructive pyelonephritis (OP).

Methods: The study included 77 patients who presented to the emergency department due to stones. Type of decompression treatment (PCN or DJ stent), fever, white blood cell count (WBC), C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, urine culture, blood culture, presence of additional diseases, and antibiotic treatment were evaluated for these patients.

Article Synopsis
  • - Testicular ischemia reperfusion (I/R) injury poses a major issue in urology, and the study investigates the protective effects of the antioxidant -Anethole on this condition in male rats.
  • - Twenty-eight rats were divided into four groups, with two groups receiving 100 or 200 mg/kg -Anethole during ischemia; results showed significant improvements in the I/R + 200 group compared to the I/R group, particularly in reducing oxidative stress and inflammation.
  • - The findings suggest that -Anethole may offer gonadoprotective benefits during testicular I/R injury, specifically by influencing the transcription factors STAT3 and NF-κB, but further evaluation of potential benefits and side effects

Background: Postoperative pain management is an important aspect of anesthesia care and multimodal analgesic techniques are generally recommended.

Objective: To compare the effect of spinal anesthesia + transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block application on postoperative analgesia quality and patient satisfaction with spinal anesthesia + intrathecal morphine (ITM) application.

Methods: A total of 70 patients were randomly separated into 2 groups as spinal anesthesia + TAP block (TAP block group, n = 34) and spinal anesthesia + ITM group (ITM group, n = 36).

Background: Mechanisms to explain inflammation in male infertility of unknown cause are still being investigated. The inflammasome is a key regulator of innate immunity in the inflammatory response to infections. Our study aims to investigate the effects of varicocele on infertility, its relationship with antioxidant and inflammasome mechanisms, and how it could be guided in azoospermic or nonazoospermic patients.
