Introduction: While sex differences are known to have a clinically relevant impact on the response to pain therapy, current data are still largely equivocal on sex-specific postoperative pain management. The aim of this study is to determine whether sex predicts differences in pain management in patients undergoing ventral hernia repair (VHR).
Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data for VHR from the Abdominal Core Health Quality Collaborative.
Purpose: To assess sex differences in patient-reported quality of life, pain, and hernia recurrence after adjusting for confounding features of hernia disease in a large national registry one year after ventral hernia repair.
Methods: Data were analyzed retrospectively from the Abdominal Core Health Quality Collaborative national registry from pre-operatively until one year post-operatively. 3,172 patients undergoing elective ventral hernia repair with 1-year follow-up data were included for analysis after propensity score matching (1:1 match; females: mean [interquartile range] age, 60 [49, 68]; body mass index, 32 [27, 36]; males: age, 60 [52, 68]; 31 [28, 35].
Objective: We aimed to determine whether n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (NB2C) adhesive is a safe and effective mechanism for nonpenetrating mesh and peritoneal fixation during laparoscopic groin hernia repair.
Background: Chronic pain after laparoscopic groin hernia repair has been associated with penetrating fixation, but there had been no US Food and Drug Administration-approved devices for nonpenetrating fixation in this context.
Methods: Patients undergoing laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal (TAP) or totally extraperitoneal (TEP) groin hernia repair with mesh at 1 of 5 academic medical centers were randomized to mesh (TAP/TEP) and peritoneal (TAP) fixation with NB2C adhesive or absorbable tacks.
Background: Patients from low socioeconomic backgrounds have greater rates of morbidity and mortality across disease processes. The Distressed Communities Index identified several socioeconomic components that were used to create a Distressed Communities Index score for every ZIP code, then broken into quintiles from prosperous to distressed. We aimed to explore whether socioeconomic distress as defined by the Distressed Communities Index affects the outcome of complex ventral hernia repair in the elderly population.

Further, there is limited information on skill transference between laparoscopic and robotic techniques. This study focused on the general surgery residents' learning curve and skill transference within the two minimally invasive platforms.
