Background: The concomitant hiatal hernia repair with endoscopic fundoplication (c-TIF) is a novel anti-reflux procedure that addresses the hiatus and the gastro-esophageal flap valve for surgical candidates with GERD. We aim to compare the outcomes of a hiatal hernia repair with endoscopic fundoplication (TIF) vs surgical partial fundoplication (anterior and posterior) with regards to quality-of-life scores at 12 months after surgery.

Study Design: Following IRB approval, a prospectively maintained anti-reflux database was retrospectively reviewed to identify patients who underwent a c-TIF procedure or a surgical hiatal hernia repair with partial fundoplication.

Article Synopsis
  • * The camera setup employs a scanning Fabry-Pérot interferometer and records data to distinguish between twelve different plastic types when heated to 60 °C.
  • * A nine-component principal component analysis combined with a k-nearest neighbors model achieves high accuracy, with a 90% micro precision and 99% macro specificity, successfully classifying most plastic types except for ABS.

Gender and biological sex have distinct impacts on the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes (T2D). Estrogen deficiency is known to predispose female mice to T2D. In our previous study, we found that a high-fat, high-sucrose diet (HFHSD) induces T2D in male mice through the miR-10b-5p/KLF11/KIT pathway, but not in females, highlighting hormonal disparities in T2D susceptibility.

Hyperspectral camera technology is advancing rapidly, and this paper seeks to compare a state-of-the-art industrial dual-camera setup to a single-camera system employing the latest chip technology (IMX990 from Sony). The hyperspectral cameras are compared over both the Visual and Short-Wave Infrared range (400-1700 nm) of the electromagnet spectrum. The spectral range and resolution, as well as spatial parameters and spectroscopic information are quantified with comparable optics, electronics, and test targets.

Vegetative desiccation tolerance has evolved within the genera and . A centre of endemism and diversification for these plants appears to occur in ancient tropical montane rainforests of east Africa in Kenya and Tanzania. , a desiccation-sensitive relative of , occurs in these rainforests and experiences adequate rainfall and thus does not require desiccation tolerance.
