Background: Little is known about changes in child well-being and family quality of life (QoL) among children seeking emergency department care because of mental health concerns over the course of the pandemic.
Methods: Prospective cohort study of children < 18 who visited two paediatric EDs in Alberta, Canada, for an acute mental health concern. Early and late pandemic time periods were defined as 15 March 2020-14 March 2021 and 1 July 2021-30 June 2022, respectively.
Objectives: We aimed to develop a comprehensive list of patient care components performed by pediatric emergency department (PED) physicians that could be individually scored on their subjective workload using the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Task Load Index (NASA-TLX). These "care components," alongside patient and environmental factors that influence workload ("modifiers"), will form the basis of the Standardized Workload Assessment Metric for Pediatric Emergency Departments (SWAMPED). We sought to obtain preliminary workload scores for each care component and assess the face validity of the NASA-TLX-derived workload tool.

One approach is to estimate unknown birth dates from the known timing of other life-history events. Building on previous methods, we update estimation techniques for Northern Resident killer whales (NRKW; ) as part of an ongoing long-term study that began in 1973.

Methods: We conducted semistructured interviews from 2021 to 2022 with 15 newborn clinicians and 15 parents who experienced perinatal toxicology testing. Clinician interviews explored indications, perceptions of use, and attitudes toward parental consent for newborn toxicology testing.
