The AAA protease FtsH associates with HflK/C subunits to form a megadalton-size complex that spans the inner membrane and extends into the periplasm of E. coli. How this bacterial complex and homologous assemblies in eukaryotic organelles recruit, extract, and degrade membrane-embedded substrates is unclear.

Cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM) has the potential to capture snapshots of proteins in motion and generate hypotheses linking conformational states to biological function. This potential has been increasingly realized by the advent of machine learning models that allow 100s-1,000s of 3D density maps to be generated from a single dataset. How to identify distinct structural states within these volume ensembles and quantify their relative occupancies remain open questions.

Introduction: Antimicrobial resistance is a major global health threat, driven largely by the misuse and overuse of antibiotics. Point-of-care (POC) tests for inflammatory biomarkers like procalcitonin (PCT) have shown promise in reducing unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions. The hybrid type II ImpPro trial aims to evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of POC-PCT on antibiotic prescriptions by primary care physicians (PCP) in French-speaking Switzerland.

Background: Electronic health records (EHRs) are increasingly used to investigate health inequalities across ethnic groups. While there are some studies showing that the recording of ethnicity in EHR is imperfect, there is no robust evidence on the accuracy between the ethnicity information recorded in various real-world sources and census data.

Methods And Findings: We linked primary and secondary care NHS England data sources with Census 2021 data and compared individual-level agreement of ethnicity recording in General Practice Extraction Service (GPES) Data for Pandemic Planning and Research (GDPPR), Hospital Episode Statistics (HES), Ethnic Category Information Asset (ECIA), and Talking Therapies for anxiety and depression (TT) with ethnicity reported in the census.

Elasticity is ubiquitous and produces a spontaneously reversible response to applied stress. Despite the utility and importance of this property in regard to scientific and engineering applications, the atomic-scale location of the force that returns an object to its original shape remains elusive in molecular crystals. Here we use a series of density functional theory calculations to locate precisely where the energy is stored when single crystals of three molecular materials are placed under elastic stress.
