The antibiotic cefepime is a fourth-generation cephalosporin with extended-spectrum coverage against both gram-positive and negative bacteria. It is commonly used in the inpatient setting to treat community-acquired pneumonia or urinary tract infection and has side effects, including diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, pruritus, headache, and, more rarely, hypersensitivity reactions or neurotoxicity. The current report is about an 88-year-old female patient who was brought to the hospital by her daughter due to an acute change in mental status resulting from a urinary tract infection.

Although mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) have garnered empirical support for a wide range of psychological conditions, the psychological processes that mediate the relationship between MBIs and subsequent symptomatic improvement are less well-understood. In the present study we sought to examine, for the first time, the relationship between mindfulness, negative interpretation bias as measured by the homophone task, and anxiety among adults with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). Forty-two individuals with GAD completed measures of mindfulness, interpretation bias, and anxiety before and after treatment with Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR).

Objectives: To examine the effect of mindfulness meditation on occupational functioning in individuals with Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).

Methods: Fifty-seven individuals with GAD (mean (SD) age=39 (13); 56% women) participated in an 8-week clinical trial in which they were randomized to mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) or an attention control class. In this secondary analysis, absenteeism, entire workdays missed, partial workdays missed, and healthcare utilization patterns were assessed before and after treatment.

There is controversy in the literature concerning the presence or absence of an endocervical component as a determinant of the adequacy of cervical cellular samples. The purpose of this retrospective 2-yr study (January 1, 1999-December 31, 2000) was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of ThinPrep Pap Tests with the presence or absence of an endocervical component from 151 women with subsequent tissue-verified cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) II/III. Of the 138 Pap Tests containing an endocervical component, 100 (73%) showed exact cyto/histologic correlation and 38 (27%) were discordant.

A case of an immature teratoma of the ovary in the peritoneal fluid of a 10-yr-old girl who presented with a pelvic mass is presented and discussed. The ThinPrep preparation showed a few tight clusters of small tumor cells with a high nuclear/cytoplasmic ratio, round to oval nuclei with evenly distributed chromatin and one to two small distinct nucleoli, and scanty cytoplasm. The presence of immunohistochemical-confirmed glial tissue on the cell block preparation confirmed the diagnosis of an immature ovarian teratoma.
