Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) apply massive amounts of untreated waste to nearby farmlands, with severe environmental health impacts of swine CAFOs and proximity to disadvantaged communities well documented in some US regions. Most studies documenting the impacts of CAFOs rely almost exclusively on CAFO locations known from incomplete public records. Poultry CAFOs generate dry waste and operate without federal permits; thus, their environmental justice (EJ) impacts are undocumented.

Pressure Enabled Drug Delivery (PEDD) Significantly Increases Intraarterial Delivery of Embolic Microspheres to Liver Tumors in a Porcine Model.

This study aims to test the hypothesis that Pressure Enabled Drug Delivery (PEDD) with a TriNav device would increase delivery of Embospheres via hepatic artery infusion to liver tumors in an oncopig model when compared to a conventional endhole microcatheter. Embospheres (100-300um in size) were fluorescently labeled and infused into porcine liver tumors using conventional technique (n=8) or by PEDD (n=8). Liver tissue was harvested and we analyzed images with a custom Visiopharm Deep Learning algorithm (Visiopharm A/S) to quantitate signal intensity.

Background: Asthma and allergic diseases are among the common causes of morbidity and mortality globally. Various environmental pollutants are linked to the development of asthma and allergic diseases. Evidence on the role of oxidative stress and immune markers in the association of environmental pollutants with asthma and allergy is scant.
