Non-physical factors that impact return to work in individuals with upper extremity injuries: A scoping review.

Background: Upper extremity injuries may prevent adults from returning to work, impacting productivity, and engagement in meaningful employment.

Objective: The scoping review identified various non-physical factors that impact return to work (RTW) after an upper extremity injury.

Methods: Database searches included: CINAHL, PsycINFO, PubMed, and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews.

Long-term study of high-comorbidity ESRD patients converted from conventional to short daily hemodialysis.

Background: Conventional hemodialysis (CHD) is associated with suboptimal clinical outcomes and high mortality rates. Daily hemodialysis (DHD) has been reported to improve outcomes and quality of life (QOL), predominantly in self-care or home dialysis populations. The effect of short DHD (sDHD) on patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) with high comorbidities has not been established.

Global ESRD Costs Associated with a Short Daily Hemodialysis Program in the United States.

In spite of the growing evidence that daily hemodialysis (DHD) improves clinical outcomes and quality of life, the additional dialysis costs are not currently reimbursed in the United States. Nor have there been reports of the effects of DHD on end-stage renal disease (ESRD) global costs, which would help predict the financial impact of DHD on the ESRD program. Since 1996, 22 patients (20 in-center, 2 home) have switched from conventional thrice-weekly dialysis to short, daily dialysis with six treatments per week.

The nature of the glomerular injury in minimal change and focal sclerosing glomerulopathies.

Glomerular barrier function was evaluated in 12 healthy human volunteers and in 16 proteinuric patients in whom the nephrotic syndrome was associated with alteration of glomerular epithelial cells alone (minimal change nephropathy [MCN]) or in combination with focal glomerular sclerosis (FGS). We determined the glomerular sieving coefficient for each of nine narrow dextran fractions (Einstein Stoke radius [ESR] = 30 to 46 A), and directly measured, or indirectly estimated, values for the determinants of glomerular ultrafiltration. These quantities were then subjected to analysis based on an hydrodynamic theory of solute transport through an isoporous membrane.
