Neuroligins are postsynaptic cell adhesion molecules that associate with presynaptic neurexins. Both factors form a transsynaptic connection, mediate signaling across the synapse, specify synaptic functions, and play a role in synapse formation. Neuroligin dysfunction impairs synaptic transmission, disrupts neuronal networks, and is thought to participate in cognitive diseases.

The dynamics of postsynaptic receptor scaffold formation and remodeling at inhibitory synapses remain largely unknown. Gephyrin, which is a multimeric scaffold protein, interacts with cytoskeletal elements and stabilizes glycine receptors (GlyRs) and individual subtypes of gamma-aminobutyric acid A receptors at inhibitory postsynaptic sites. We report intracellular mobility of gephyrin transports packets over time.

It was the aim of the present experiments to evaluate the fluoride leaching of four compomers and one resin-modified glass-ionomer cement (gic) into aqueous media over a 1-year period. Various extraction/equilibrium solutions were applied to simulate important intraoral parameters. Specimens of Dyract, Compoglass F, F2000, one experimental compomer, and the resin-modified gic Fuji II LC were stored for 366 days in distilled water (I), acidic medium (pH 4.

The value of the Gram preparation of tracheal secretion compared to bacterial culture was checked in 48 patients with lower respiratory tract infections under mechanical ventilation with regard to antibiotic therapy. In 20 patients attention was also paid to the information value of a bronchial secretion obtained bronchoscopically using a brush. In 34 patients (71%) there was an exact agreement between the result of the Gram preparation and that of the culture.

Performance evaluation tools have been underused as a mechanism to convey the value of professionalism to clinical nurses. An investigative study conducted at the University of Michigan Hospitals articulated professional nursing practice behaviors in measurable objectives for two classifications of clinical nurses. This paper describes the process of the study and includes examples of the evaluation tools.
