Neutrophils are a vital part of the innate immune system. Many of their functions eliminate bacteria & viruses, like neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), which trap bacteria, enhancing macrophage phagocytosis. It was surprising when it was demonstrated that neutrophils are a part of Wallerian degeneration, a process that is essential for nerve regeneration after a nerve injury.

Large gas bubbles can reach the surface of pools of mud and lava where they burst, often through the formation and expansion of circular holes. Bursting bubbles release volatiles and generate spatter, and hence play a key role in volcanic degassing and volcanic edifice construction. Here, we study the ascent and rupture of bubbles using a combination of field observations at Pâclele Mici (Romania), laboratory experiments with mud from the Imperial Valley (California, USA), numerical simulations and theoretical models.

Urinary incontinence is a common complication following radical prostatectomy, as the surgery disturbs critical anatomical structures. This study explored how pudendal nerve (PN) injury affects urinary continence in male rats. In an acute study, leak point pressure (LPP) and external urethral sphincter electromyography (EMG) were performed on six male rats with an intact urethra, the urethra exposed (UE), the PN exposed (NE), and after PN transection (PNT).

Article Synopsis
  • Various organosulfur compounds, like dimethyl trisulfide (DMTS), have shown anti-inflammatory effects and were tested for their impact on acute pancreatitis in animal studies.
  • DMTS treatment significantly reduced the severity of acute pancreatitis by decreasing leukocyte infiltration and cellular damage, while enhancing protective heat shock protein expression.
  • Findings suggest that DMTS acts as a sulfur donor with antioxidant properties, indicating a need for more research on organosulfur compounds for potential therapeutic use in inflammatory diseases.
