Global climate change and anthropogenic activities are threatening the future survival of coral reef ecosystems. The ability of reef-building zooxanthellate coral to survive these stressors may be determined through fundamental differences within their symbiotic dinoflagellates (Symbiodinium sp.).

Ulcerated yellow spot syndrome: implications of aquaculture-related pathogens associated with soft coral Sarcophyton ehrenbergi tissue lesions.

We introduce a new marine syndrome called ulcerated yellow spot, affecting the soft coral Sarcophyton ehrenbergi. To identify bacteria associated with tissue lesions, tissue and mucus samples were taken during a 2009 Indo-Pacific research expedition near the Wakatobi Island chain, Indonesia. Polymerase chain reaction targeting the 16S rDNA gene indicated associations with the known fish-disease-causing bacterium Photobacterium damselae, as well as multiple Vibrio species.

Action of recombinant follicle stimulating hormone in superfused human granulosa cells in vitro.

The aim of this work was to compare the action of recombinant follicle stimulating hormone (rFSH) and urinary FSH (uFSH). Moreover we aimed to compare the secretory efficiency of continuous versus pulsatile stimulation by rFSH in superfused human luteal cells. Progesterone concentration was measured in culture medium by radioimmunoassay.

Frozen storage of Ham's F10 medium for human in-vitro fertilization.

A method of frozen storage of Ham's F10 medium was investigated that provides 'ready-to-use' culture medium for human in-vitro fertilization, without the necessity of readjusting and testing the medium after thawing. Ham's F10 medium, without bicarbonate, was adjusted to 245 mOsm/kg and stored in aliquots of 33 ml at -20 degrees C. Aliquots of 1 ml of a 7.
