Investigation of the relationship between anxiety-depression, systemic immune-inflammation index and clinical progression in COVID-19.

Objective: Given the multisystem nature of COVID-19 and its potential neuro-psychiatric effects along with the recognized role of systemic inflammation in the prognosis of both COVID-19 and psychiatric disorders, it is imperative to assess psychiatric symptoms in COVID-19 patients. This study sought to investigate the value of systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) scores, levels of anxiety and depressive symptoms assessed within the initial 24 hours following COVID-19 diagnosis as potential predictors of the clinical trajectory of COVID-19.

Methods: This study involved 64 patients admitted to our COVID-19 ward with mild-to-moderate COVID-19 pneumonia, all of whom underwent a psychiatric evaluation within 24 hours of admission.

Sensitive and reliable lab-on-paper biosensor for label-free detection of exosomes by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.

A new, sensitive, and cost-effective lab-on-paper-based immunosensor was designed based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) for the detection of exosomes. EIS was selected as the determination method since there was a surface blockage in electron transfer by binding the exosomes to the transducer. Briefly, the carbon working electrode (WE) on the paper electrode (PE) was modified with gold particles (AuPs@PE) and then conjugated with anti-CD9 (Anti-CD9/AuPs@PE) for the detection of exosomes.

A Novel and Simple Method for a Differentiation of Alcohol Types.

Background: Alcohol poisoning is a significant global problem that has become an epidemic. The determination of the alcohol type is hereby essential as it may affect the course of the treatment; however, there is no routine laboratory diagnostic method for alcohol types other than for ethanol. In this study, we aimed to define a simple method for alcohol type differentiation by utilizing a combination of breathalyzer and spectrophotometrically measured serum ethanol results.

Long-term results of three-part penile prosthesis implantation with Ectopic reservoir placement in the treatment of erectile dysfunction: is supramuscular tubulation a reliable method?

Background: Penile prosthesis implantation is the last resort for refractory erectile dysfunction. Reservoir placement is one of the biggest challenges in inflatable penile prosthesis implant surgery in several cases, especially in patients with abnormal pelvic anatomy. Ectopic reservoir placement with supramuscular approach has many advantages in these cases.

Interplay between secondary metabolites and plant hormones in silver nitrate-elicited Arabidopsis thaliana plants.

Plants produce a myriad of specialized compounds in response to threats such as pathogens or pests and different abiotic factors. The stress-related induction of specialized metabolites can be mimicked using silver nitrate (AgNO) as an elicitor, which application in conservation agriculture has gained interest. In Arabidopsis thaliana, AgNO triggers the accumulation of indole glucosinolates (IGs) and the phytoalexin camalexin as well as pheylpropanoid-derived defensive metabolites such as coumaroylagmatins and scopoletin through a yet unknown mechanism.
