First record of the rare species Aeromonas culicicola from a drinking water supply.

We describe the recovery of the rare species Aeromonas culicicola, so far known only in mosquitoes in India, from a drinking water supply in Spain. Typing, using enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus-PCR, revealed that the 27 new isolates belonged to 3 very closely related strains. These strains were genetically identified by 16S rRNA gene sequencing.

[Phage count in the waters of the Canal Imperial de Aragón and the Ebro River in Saragossa].

Saragossa city supply channel and the river Ebro (up and downstream urban sewage) were studied for the presence of coliphages and B. fragilis phages and their relationship with the bacterian faecal indicators. In the supply channel the coliphages geometric mean was of 130 ufp/100 ml, and showed no correlation with faecal and total coliforms, but it showed indirect correlation with ambient temperature.

[APH(3')-II phosphotransferase determination using protein transfer (western blotting)].

The APH(3')-II aminoglycoside-phosphotransferase has been studied by protein blotting. This technique allowed the detection of the enzyme in the crude extracts from clinical isolates of Enterobacteriaceae, and the molecular weight determination of the APH(3')-II. The obtained molecular weight of 25,000 is coincident with the previously reported value determined by a different method.
