We describe the recovery of the rare species Aeromonas culicicola, so far known only in mosquitoes in India, from a drinking water supply in Spain. Typing, using enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus-PCR, revealed that the 27 new isolates belonged to 3 very closely related strains. These strains were genetically identified by 16S rRNA gene sequencing.

In the supply channel the coliphages geometric mean was of 130 ufp/100 ml, and showed no correlation with faecal and total coliforms, but it showed indirect correlation with ambient temperature.

The APH(3')-II aminoglycoside-phosphotransferase has been studied by protein blotting. This technique allowed the detection of the enzyme in the crude extracts from clinical isolates of Enterobacteriaceae, and the molecular weight determination of the APH(3')-II. The obtained molecular weight of 25,000 is coincident with the previously reported value determined by a different method.
