Butyrate has been proposed as a drug therapy by acting as a lysine deacetylase (KDAC) inhibitor and elevating protein acetylation, in particular on histones. Nonetheless, recent studies suggest that tissues such as the gut can utilize butyrate as a metabolite. We have previously shown that the addition of butyrate induces a rapid increase of oxygen consumption in whole Drosophila melanogaster heads.

To improve learning during observation, the use of an observer tool (OT) has been advocated. The aim was to assess the value of OT to improve medical students' learning outcomes during CPR simulation training.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWild-type murine models for aging research have lifespans of several years, which results in long experimental duration and late output. Here we explore the short-lived non-inbred Titan mouse (DU6) as a mouse model to test longevity interventions. We show that Titan mice exhibit increased frailty and senescence-associated beta-galactosidase activity at an early age.

Simulation training is an effective mean to master this skill. Given the large number of residents and the limited duration of training sessions, the active practice time is limited and residents remain observers of their colleagues for much of the session.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLipids are involved in a broad spectrum of canonical biological functions, from energy supply and storage by triacylglycerols to membrane formation by sphingolipids, phospholipids and glycolipids. Because of this wide range of functions, there is an overlap between age-associated processes and lipid pathways. Lipidome analysis revealed age-related changes in the lipid composition of various tissues in mice and humans, which were also influenced by diet and gender.
