The development of new antibiotics with unique mechanisms of action is paramount to combating the growing threat of antibiotic resistance. Recently, based on inspiration from natural products, an asymmetrical polyacetylene core structure was examined for its bioactivity and found to have differential specificity for different bacterial species based on the substituents around the conjugated alkyne. This research further probes the structural requirements for bioactivity through a systematic synthesis and investigation of new compounds with variable carbon chain length, alkynyl subunits, and alcohol substitution.

Inorganic polyphosphates (polyPs) are energy-storing biopolymers synthesized by all three domains of life. PolyP accumulation has been well studied with respect to its role in stress response, but its role in dental disease has received less attention. Dental decay can be promoted by changes in pH as well as the chemical activity of ions such as phosphate in oral fluids at the enamel interface.

Aims: The objective of this study is to determine the extent of the available literature on psilocybin for medical indications including the designs used, study characteristics, indications studied, doses, and authors' conclusions.
The increased fragmentation caused by harsher ionization methods used during mass spectrometry such as electron ionization can make interpreting the mass spectra of peptides difficult. Therefore, the development of tools to aid in this spectral analysis is important in utilizing these harsher ionization methods to study peptides, as these tools may be more accessible to some researchers. We have compiled fragmentation mechanisms described in the literature, confirmed them experimentally, and used them to create a Python-based fragment prediction model for peptides analyzed under direct exposure probe electron ionization mass spectrometry.
