The incidence of PICC line-associated thrombosis with and without the use of prophylactic anticoagulants.

Background: Indications for peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) for long-term venous access have grown during the last several years. There are various complications associated with PICC lines, a common one being venous thrombosis. This study's purpose was to determine the incidence of venous thrombosis associated with PICCs with and without prophylactic anticoagulants.

Efficacy of transarterial embolization as definitive treatment in lower gastrointestinal bleeding.

Unlabelled: Transarterial catheter embolization (TAE) is integral in the management of lower gastrointestinal bleeding (BLGIT). The efficacy of superselective embolization has reduced the need for emergent surgical resection as a treatment modality.

Objective: To determine the outcomes of TAE in the management of BLGIT in terms of efficacy rates, recurrent bleeding rates and long term results without the need for surgical intervention.

Endovascular repair of spontaneous or traumatic iliac vein rupture.

Spontaneous rupture of the iliac vein and rupture resulting from blunt trauma are both very unusual. Herein one case of each are reported and were managed by emergent endovascular repair with use of covered stents. Favorable outcomes were achieved in both cases.

Evaluation of transarterial embolization for lower gastrointestinal bleeding.

Introduction: Transcatheter arterial embolization has been used as a therapeutic maneuver for lower gastrointestinal bleeding. The availability of highly selective arteriography has made this procedure safer and warrants re-evaluation.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was done of all patients undergoing arteriography for presumed lower gastrointestinal bleeding at two acute-care community hospitals.
