Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues to have a devastating effect on the well-being of Ukrainians and their environment. We evaluated a major environmental hazard caused by the war: the potential for groundwater contamination in proximity to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). We quantified groundwater vulnerability with the DRASTIC index, which was originally developed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and has been used at various locations worldwide to assess relative pollution potential.

This study employs fuzzy regression and fuzzy multivariate clustering techniques to analyze arsenic-polluted water samples originating from acid rock drainage in waste rock dumps. The research focuses on understanding the complex relationships between variables associated with arsenic contamination, such as water arsenic concentration, pH levels, and soil characteristics. To this end, fuzzy regression models were developed to estimate the relationships between water arsenic concentration and independent variables, thus, incorporating the inherent uncertainties into the analysis.

The relationship between carbon cycle and water demand is key to understanding global climate change, vegetation productivity, and predicting the future of water resources. The water balance, which enumerates the relative fractions of precipitation P that run off, Q, or are returned to the atmosphere through evapotranspiration, ET, links drawdown of atmospheric carbon with the water cycle through plant transpiration. Our theoretical description based on percolation theory proposes that dominant ecosystems tend to maximize drawdown of atmospheric carbon in the process of growth and reproduction, thus providing a link between carbon and water cycles.

Presented is a system of four ordinary differential equations and a mathematical analysis of microbiological experiments in a four-component chemostat-nutrient n, rods r, cocci c, and predators p. The analysis is consistent with the conclusion that previous experiments produced features of deterministic chaotic and classical dynamics depending on dilution rate. The surrogate model incorporates as much experimental detail as possible, but necessarily contains unmeasured parameters.
